Tom Matzell (“Deacon”) - Drums, Vocals

The oldest member of Party of 9 and its founder and manager, Tom grew up playing clarinet, but when he couldn't locate a clarinet rock band, he switched to drums, playing 60s/70s rock and Motown in his college band, The Second Coming. He dabbled in country bands in the 70s (what was he thinking?) and then hung up the skins to have a family and build a career in advertising. The musical bug bit him again 35 years later. He rebuilt his chops in a church rock band (soul music!) and then launched Party of 9 to play the music that was always under his skin. Tom lends his backup vocal talents to many Po9 tunes.
